Verbal communication is any communication that uses words to share information with others. These words may be both spoken and written.

The rules of speaking
According to Donald Carbaugh (1995), there is five rules of speaking:
1. Do not say the obvious!
2. Do not bring forth conflicting or questionable issues! Try to keep harmonious relationship!
3. What you say forms a basis for the subsequent interaction!
4. Be personally committed in what you are saying!
5. When you speak say something worth of everybody’s attention!
·       Rules and Styles of Speaking in America
In conversations, Americans use “Ping-Pong” style. It parable of the way to communicate actively because for Americans, even two or three seconds of silence can become uncomfortable.
·       Rules and Styles of Speaking in Asian
In conversation, most of Asians use “Bowling” style. It means Asian know when they have a turn to talk and they will carefully. Long silence are tolerated

Directness in American English
In American, they will tell you before you ask. Directness is seen as trustworthiness to Americans and there is no miscommunication because of the directness. When Americans say something, they usually mean just that and nothing else.
Female: has traditionally been less direct (more polite and soft) in 1980’s there is a course that designed to help women communicate directly, especially in the office. In 1990’s it has been observed that men tend to interrupt women than women interrupt man. However, Americans female use direct way to show their feeling.

Invitations
In America, same like others country they can invite you by letter or by saying it to you. If they have an event, they prefer to invite people that have a close relation with them.
In British, same like others country they can invite you by letter or by saying it to you. If you have been invited, you have to give the confirmation about your attendance and you must be on time if you come to the invitation.

Speak and Refrain in Speaking
Stay speak when:
  1. You want to let your feelings known
  2. You have the power to change something
  3. A golden opportunity comes knocking
  4. Your opinion is requested
Stay silent when:
  1. You have nothing to say
  2. You need time to solidify your reaction
  3. It’s better left unsaid
  4. You don’t have a receptive listener
Expressing Common Needs
-     Mostly in Europe when they want to express their common needs they will be direct to the point.
-     While mostly in Asians when they want to express their common needs they will be indirect.
